Windows 8

A lot of people will be purchasing computers over the upcoming Christmas season. Most of the retail stores are only offering Windows 8 and are not offering Windows 7.

Windows 8 makes some radical departures in it’s user interface. You can revert back to the more classic Windows interface for many tasks. One of the forces driving the new design is that Windows 8 is designed for use with a touch screen.

If you want to get the best experience from your new operating system, you will need to purchase a touch enabled system. This can either be an all-in-one with a touch screen or a monitor that is touch enabled. Either way, this is not an inexpensive option. An all-in-one will set you back a minimum of about $700. A touch enabled monitor is about $200 or more than a comparable non touch monitor. The same is true with laptops. A touch enabled laptop will be more expensive than a non touch laptop.

If you are purchasing the machine as a replacement for your business, then you might be happy without the touch screen ability. For home use though, you need to go all in for Windows 8.
