I found a post on Quora about “Can I make a High Traffic website alone?” One of the replies was particularly interesting.
It told of Daniel Delong and his website Viral Nova. He took it to millions of visitors and millions in revenue in 8 months. The formula was simple – Pick a topic, look at competitors, Post – post – post and post again. The reply referenced above can give more details.
Personally, I think there is a little more too it but, at this point in time (Dec 2017) you can succeed on the web through focus and dedication. You don’t need to be obsessive-compulsive with your sites to the point where you alienate your family and friends but, you need to have the discipline to constantly build your site.
Some quick thoughts about what you need are
- A blogging platform.
- A basic knowledge of layout.
- An ability to write at a competent level.
- An eye for what people will want to visit.
- An understanding of how to monetize your site.
- A basic understanding of Social Media and how to promote your site.
- A willingness to put a lot of effort into getting things started. It’s like trying to start a bonfire with a match and a little wad of tinder under some kindling. Once you get it started it roars.
