A fix for spam emails on mobile devices

I use the K9 client to retrieve my main emails on my tablet and Droid phone. I simply connected using Pop3. That was OK until recently.

The flea infested scum sucking, bottom feeding, worse than rabid herpes spammers  have been flooding my mailbox with useless “Make it bigger”, “become a millionaire”, “Buy our crud” emails.   The ratio of garbage to useful emails is getting to be about 30:1. Continue reading

GOdaddy hosting and coreftp

I was working on a clients site where I was using Coreftp to update their Godaddy hosted site. I was getting timed out every 2 minutes or so.

I thought I checked the timeout. What i didnt realize is it was grey check box. I clicked the box until I got a non grey checkbox with a check in it. Success!!. Now i was getting a reasonable timeout period of more than 10 minutes or so. Continue reading

Disaster Recovery for Oscommerce Sites

We had a client who wants some database changes and associated programming. He sells fairly big ticket items but isn’t doing a lot of volume at this point. On the other hand, he really could not afford to be down for any length of time.

We decided to purchase another domain and shared hosting account. If the stuff hits the fan with his primary host, we should be able to switch the dns pointers for his main domain name and reload the latest data from the daily backups he is supposed to be doing (that is another story for a later time kids…) Continue reading
