If you have an image intensive site and use PLG_SYSTEM_SEOGENERATOR, check your metatags

I was running a site against BING webmaster tools. Bing gave a warning that “The page uses a meta robots tag that needs review”  Further investigation showed that the metatag “meta name=”robots” content=”index, follow, noarchive, noimageindex” was blocking image indexing.

This could be important since one of the key features of the site is pictures of the area.

We are using the Joomla extension  PLG_SYSTEM_SEOGENERATOR which handles automatic generation of Keywords, Titles and Meta descriptions. However, because of the way the input box is set up for the plug in manager the noimageindex tag was not visible.

I removed the noimageindex tag and will see if that helps search engine visibility.
